Following up on Podcasts part 1

Asian Enough

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/asian-enough/id1501446978

Creators: Los Angeles Times

Concept: Interviews with famous/prominent Asian Americans about living their life, growing up, embracing cultures, and current events. Every episode is very different; it depends which celebrities you know and which issues you want to know more about.

Schedule: Weekly, when actively releasing episodes

Bad Blood: The Final Chapter vs. The Dropout

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/bad-blood-the-final-chapter/id1575738174 and https://abcaudio.com/podcasts/the-dropout/

Creators: John Carreyrou (author of Bad Blood) vs. ABC news

Concept: These dueling podcasts are tracking updates in the Elizabeth Holmes / Theranos trial.
Benefits of Bad Blood: Carreyrou’s reporting was key to unraveling Theranos’s secrets, and they threw legal threats at him throughout reporting. He’s also listed as a potential defense witness. So his coverage feels personal.
Benefits of The Dropout: You can go back and listen to the original episodes from 2019 for an intro. All episodes are free (no paywall).

Fairwork Podcast

https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9mZWVkcy5hY2FzdC5jb20vcHVibGljL3Nob3dzL2ZhaXJ3b3JrLXBvZGNhc3Q

Creators: Oxford Internet Institute and WZB Berlin Social Science Centre

Concept: Stories of the demands of gig work and attempts at organizing gig workers. Starts out with London-centric episodes; newer international episodes need to be more of an overview which gives them a less direct / detailed view (compared to RestOfWorld and other social media reporting I’ve seen on Indian delivery workers).

Schedule: Unclear

It Did Happen Here

https://kboo.fm/program/it-did-happen-here

Creators: KBOO (Portland community radio)

Concept: Neo-Nazis rallied and attacked in Portland, Oregon with impunity in the late 80s / early 90s. The podcast covers their appearance in the music scene, white nationalist violence in Oregon, and the punks and activists who fought back against them. You learn a lot about Portland weirdness, anti-racist skinheads, and the music scene.

Schedule: Episodes were released in late 2020 to January 2021, with bonus episodes last published in May.

SCOTUStalks

https://www.scotusblog.com/category/scotustalk/

Creators: SCOTUS Blog (legendary online Supreme Court news coverage)

Concept: Variety of interviews with people who’ve written books on the Supreme Court or talk about how the shadow docket affects big cases (such as Texas’s abortion law, SB8)

The Other Latif

https://www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/other-latif

Creators: WNYC (New York public radio)

Concept: NPR co-host Latif Nasser tells the story of Abdul Latif Nasser, a detainee at Guantánamo Bay who shares his name. Nasser was cleared for release in 2016, blocked by international politics and the Trump administration, and finally left detention in July 2021.

Schedule: This podcast was published back in March 2020, plus the recent updates.

The War on Cars

https://thewaroncars.org

Concept: The go-to podcast on all things bikes, transit, and community planning, with no sympathy for NIMBYs.

Schedule: Is there a regular schedule? I dunno. But the updates come in often, and you can subscribe to Patreon for additional updates.
